Fürth Mean Machine played for only two years, in 1986 and 1987, in the RL Süd and RL Bayern Nord. In 1985, there was an exhibition game against the Fellbach Sioux, which the Sioux won clearly with a score of 39:7. The Mean Machine was founded by US soldiers from the barracks in Fürth and Erlangen. The team name was inspired by the 1974 American Football film "The Longest Yard," which is also known as "Die Kampfmaschine." The theme has been remade twice so far, as "Mean Machine" (2001) and "The Longest Yard" (2005). In "The Longest Yard" (2005), numerous celebrities, including former NFL stars Bill Romanowski, Brian Bosworth, and Michael Irvin, wrestlers Kevin Nash, Goldberg, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Great Khali, and rappers Bizarre, Proof, Kon Artis, Kuniva, Swift from D12, and Nelly, appeared on screen.
Currently, international clubs such as the Stockholm Mean Machines and Basel MeanMachine still play under this striking name.
